CHRISTOPHER KANE - FALL 2011 - LONDON FASHION WEEK 2011

Christopher Kane's latest collection was a weird, wonderful, and distinctly grown-up journey, but at its dark heart there might have been something as sweet and simple as childhood memories. The crochet that opened the show was the kind of traditional craftsy throw you might see on a rec-room sofa; the extraordinary plastic trims that arrived to infect severe black shift dresses were inspired by the squidgy pencil cases filled with glitter and colored liquid that were a schoolkid craze at some point in the Kane infancy. The sequins at the finale reflected the carbonated fizz of a SodaStream, another kids' fancy.

MOVIE HESHER - SPENCER SUSSER - JOSEPH GORDON-LEVITT - 2011

Loud music. Pornography. Burning shit to the ground. These are a few of Hesher's favorite things. And they are Hesher (Joseph Gordon Levitt) brings into the lives of TJ (Devin Brochu) and his father, Paul (Rainn Wilson) when he takes up residence in their garage uninvited.

Grief-striken by the loss of TJ's mother in a car accident, Paul can't muster the strength to evict the strange squatter, and soon the long-haired, tattooed Hesher becomes a fixture in the household. Like a force of nature, Hesher's anarchy shakes the family out of their grief and helps them embrace life once more.

MILDRED PIERCE - LA GRANDE DEPRESSION - KATE WINSLET - HBO

GLENDALE, CA 1931
