DIARY LYLYBYE - GO-SEES - JUERGEN TELLER - SCALO EDITION - 1999

Juergen Teller's new book is both an uncompromising journal and a poignant engagement with the uncharted world that lies behind the outward glamour of the fashion industry. Taken over the period of a year in the doorway of the photographer's London studio, these portraits of models, most of whorm are unknown, are at profoundly moving and disquieting.

In Go-Sees, Teller has pushed his exploration of the relationship between the photographer and his subjects into new territory. The portraits constitute, on one level, a documentary record of the "Go-Sees" : a term used to describe an aspiring model and her vetting by a photographer. On another level, they register the photographer's unavoidable complicity in a process that reduces the model's material existence to an idealised abstraction. It is precisely here, Teller suggests, in the critical space between the concrete and the abstract, that our fantasies take shape and begin to breathe.

LEE FRIEDLANDER - CARS - GALERIE THOMAS ZANDER - KOLN - 26FEB 30APRIL 2011

Lee Friedlander (geb.

MUSIC FRANCIS WOLF - JAMIE BOCHERT & MICHAEL PITT - LE CARMEN PARIS 2011

Francis Wolf : Jamie Bochert & Michael Pitt in concert at Le Carmen in Paris

It is hard to tear a stylish crowd away from shows in the middle of Paris fashion week, but if anyone can grab their attention it is Jamie Bochert. Saturday night at Le Carmen, Bochert and boyfriend Michael Pitt staged an intimate performance of their band, Francis Wolf. With Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, Isabeli Fontana, Viktor & Rolf, Natasha Poly and many more in the audience, the duo rocked out with a series of haunting songs complete with a string section and video installation. Not exactly dance music, as Bouchert, quipped during the playful performance, but certainly mesmerizing and soulful tunes that kept the audience enthralled all through the night up to the intense Michael Pitt guitar and amplifier smashing finale.

William Shakespeare

Who is it that says most, which can say more
Than this rich praise, that you alone are you,
In whose confine immurèd is the store
Which sould example where your equal, grew ?
Lean penury witin that pen doth dwell
That to his subject lends not some small glory,
But he that writes of you, if he can tell
That you are you, so dignifies his story.
Let him but copy what in you is writ,
Not making worse what nature made so clear,
And such a counterpart shall fame his wit,
Making his style admired everywhere.
You to your beauteous blessings add a curse,
Being fond on praise, which makes your praises worse.

ELIZABETH PEYTON - CAMILLE CLAUDEL FLOWERS AND BOOKS - COLLECTOR'S EDITION - HATJE CANTZ - 2011

Collector's Edition
Elizabeth Peyton

Well known for her painted portraits, Elizabeth Peyton has created since the 1990s a broad range of prints, including monotypes, lithographs, woodcuts, and etchings. Experimenting with different techniques, she also uses a variety of diverse and handmade papers as well as various colored and monochromatic inks. Her portrayed subjects—historical figures such as William Shakespeare and Richard Wagner; visual artists such as Frida Kahlo, David Hockney, Andy Warhol, and Robert Mapplethorpe; pop stars such as Eminem and Kurt Cobain; as well as her friends—populate both her prints and paintings. More recently, Peyton has turned to the genre of the still life to explore its contemporary relevance.
The etching we are pleased to offer you as a Collector’s Edition is a tender still life: we see Camille Claudel — her portrait probably taken from a book cover, since her name appears backward, in a mirror image — and a partially visible vase of flowers, whose blooms seem to crown her head.

GIVENCHY - FALL 2011 - RICCARDO TISCI - FASHION WEEK PARIS

It started with a roar—a disembodied snarl over the loudspeakers. Turned out it was a panther's roar, going by the look of the first model out: Her black button-down was fastened all the way up to the collar and had a pride of panthers printed on its hem. The top was paired with a pencil skirt that was mostly sheer between the waist and hem, and backstage Riccardo Tisci said, "There's more sex than usual." How could there not be, with the twin inspirations of Bettie Page (the foil to Jerry Lee Lewis in his Fall menswear) and Amanda Lear on the cover of Roxy Music's For Your Pleasure?
